(Pleasant Grove-AP) -- A snowboarder who survived an avalanche that killed three of his friends is being charged with aggravated assault for firing a pellet gun at an officer.

20-year-old J-D Settle was in court yesterday to face that charge and two other felony charges of failure to stop for an officer and criminal mischief.

Prosecutors say Settle, 19-year-old Andrew Locke, and 18-year-old Jeremy Helt are part of a group responsible for shooting out about 200 windows from cars and homes in Utah County.

The shootings began the day after the deadly December 26 avalanche that killed three of Settle's friends in Aspen Grove. Two of them are still missing.

Settle was arrested after police say he led them on a chase January 24 after firing a pellet gun at an unmarked police car.
