OREM, Utah (AP) -- A bomb that may have been part of a scheme to rob a bank was detonated by police outside the city courthouse Friday.

A suspicious package was found at the courthouse and a bomb squad was called in to investigate. A robot checked the package, which police said was explosive.

Nobody was injured, but the area was evacuated.

Bomb Likely a Diversion for Bank Robbery

Just after the package was found, a bomb threat was phoned in to a local bank. A different bank across town was robbed a few minutes later. Police think the explosive and bomb threat may have been a diversion to keep officers occupied during the robbery.
