SALT LAKE CITY -- Troopers made more than 100 arrests during a statewide DUI blitz on Halloween.
Law enforcement stopped 1,792 vehicles from 11 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday.
Sgt. Jeff Nigbur with the Department of Public Safety said, "We feel it was really successful. Currently we stand at about 113 DUI and alcohol-related arrests throughout the state."
In all, 124 people were arrested. Eleven were released with a DUI citation, the rest were booked into jail.
Statistically, when Halloween falls on a Friday or Saturday night, alcohol-related deaths go up 40 percent. The Department of Public Safety reported zero fatalities this Halloween, and said it was thanks, in part, to the blitz.
"There's a reason we're doing this. It's not to bother the public, or pull lots of people over. Really, truly it's to try to save lives," said Nigbur.
In addition, there were no alcohol-related crashes in Salt Lake County.
