(KSL News) – Today it's been blowing, snowing, and raining as a cold front pushes its way through the valley.

Cold Weather Blows Through Utah

Winds, some 50 miles per hour, have downed trees and toppled trailers. And with it, came a cold, snow and rain mixture. It’s been gusty and blustery all the way from Point of the Mountain to Weber and Davis counties.

It started this afternoon with strong gusts of wind, and in some places caused destruction.

Wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour hit the open Interstate just outside of Wendover.

Jonathan Dobbs/ Truck Driver: "Wind started blowing really bad and I knew it was goign to blow over. So I got over to the shoulder as far as I could and about that time it went over. There was nothing I could do, the wind was so hard. There was nothing I could do at all."

Four semi trucks blew over and highway patrol warned everyone on the road to be careful.

Lt. Ken Bryant/ Utah Highway Patrol: "Even if you are in a passenger car, in high winds you go into an area of a guardrail the wind will move you four, five, six feet."

In Alpine, a tree just missed the garage and a brand new red van by a couple of inches. The wind also blew a utility trailer over on the east-west connection into Alpine. Some neighbors are reporting power outages in Utah County.

In Weber and Davis counties, a snow-rain mixture made driving conditions extremely dangerous. After getting caught in the snow, a couple folks probably realized it was the wrong day to have the landscapers over.

But if you are not used to it, a little snow is still exciting. We ran into some folks from Scottsdale, Arizona escaping the heat and visiting family in Ogden.

Jill Brooks, Scottsdale: “She told us this morning it would snow! And we said, 'no way!' but here we are in the snow hoping to build something."

Snow dusted the roofs of homes on the benches, but for the most part it’s just been a rainy, windy day in the valley. It's a heck of a way to get a cold front, but that's what's happening. When all this blows over it will be cooler than it’s been all week.
