(Salt Lake City-AP) -- The majority leader of the Utah House of Representatives has resigned from his job as the legal counsel to Salt Lake County Mayor Nancy Workman.
Greg Curtis' resignation came after he got caught up in the scandal involving the private use of government vehicles.
Curtis' resignation is effective immediately.
Worktman says she did NOT ask Curtis to resign. But she says he felt that in order to move on with his life, leaving Salt Lake County was the best thing to do.
Curtis did NOT immediatley return messages left this afternoon by The Associated Press at his office and home.
Curtis last week reimbursed the Legislature 767 dollars for mileage money he received while driving a county-provided Ford Explorer and fueling it with a county charge card.
Curtis -- who is seeking to become the next House Speaker -- said he must have signed a form requesting the reimbursement but he doesn't remember doing so.
Curtis had planned to surrender his county-provided sport utility vehicle when he intended to go part-time in Workman's office. That was to focus more time on his work at the legislature.
