(Salt Lake City-AP) -- The Salt Lake County Fire Department is now the United Fire Authority.
The 83-year-old department changed its designation yesterday. Officials say it will mean little to no change in service, but save money in administration costs.
The U-F-A includes six participating cities. They are Alta, Draper, Herriman, Holladay, Riverton and Taylorsville. It's managed by a nine-member board of three county officials and one representative from each of the cities.
The cities had been contracting with the county for fire protection but now will have more say in the service's operation.
