SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- For the first time in almost eight years, Utah went through an entire month without a single homicide.
Before the murder-free June, you would have to flip a calendar back to November 1996 to find the last time the state went an entire month without a homicide, according to figures from the Bureau of Criminal Identification.
Those are also the only two months without a homicide since the bureau started tracking such statistics in 1992.
Law enforcement officials attributed the decline, at least in part, to better medical technology keeping people alive after they've been attacked.
