SALT LAKE CITY -- A man accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend's brother to death last year has taken a plea deal.

According to the Deseret News, Nazir Rahimi pleaded guilty Thursday to a charge of criminal homicide by assault in connection with the stabbing death of Farhad Mullahkhel.

Rahimi was initially charged with murder -- but prosecutors reduced the charge as part of the deal.

The stabbing happened during a brawl outside of Rahimi's Murray home in April of last year. Witnesses said the two men belonged to families that had been fighting for some time.

Rahimi is scheduled to be sentenced in November.
