SALT LAKE CITY -- A teenager who prosecutors say was the accomplice in the shooting death of another teen near a downtown taco stand will spend up to 30 years in prison.
A judge sentenced now 18-year-old Alexis Rodriguez to one to 15 years in prison for attempted murder, and one to 15 years for attempted aggravated robbery.
Prosecutors say Rodriguez was 17 when he and Luis Mendoza opened fire near the popular cart just outside a Sears store at 800 South and State Street on Jan. 6, 2008. The shots hit and killed 16-year-old Diego Mendoza and injured another man.
Rodriguez and Luis Mendoza were found days later, hiding in a Motel 6. Mendoza is already serving a prison sentence for the murder.
