SOUTH JORDAN -- Police are still looking into a fatal shooting that happened Saturday in South Jordan, but say they're confident they have the shooter in custody
Officers say 21-year-old Stephen John Lasiloo was gunned down on the side of a road around 4 a.m. Saturday after a fight at a house party escalated.
Two groups left the party; one in a car and the other on foot.
The car caught up to the other group near 450 West and 11400 South, and someone inside that car shot Lasiloo in the chest.
Police had taken three juveniles into custody by Saturday night. One of them, a 17-year-old male, is thought to be the one who pulled the trigger.
Lt. Dan Starks of the South Jordan City Police Department said, "We have two, maybe three witnesses to the actual shooting, and all three of them are people that positively identified our shooter. That's why we're very confident we have him."
Police have since released one of the juveniles, saying he did not play a significant role in the shooting.
They say there's still a lot of work to do before this case goes to court. They're not sure yet if the alleged shooter will be charged as an adult.
KSL spoke with Lasiloo's uncle Sunday afternoon. He says his nephew grew up in Salt Lake City and moved to Vernal to get away from gang activity.
The uncle says Lasiloo was here for the weekend visiting his parents.
He had a 2-year-old daughter and 8-month-old son.
