OREM, Utah (AP) -- Utah Valley University officials say student enrollment for the 2009 summer session has increased 13 percent over last year.
According to the school 9,400 students have signed up for classes. Of those, more than 5,000 are full-time students.
Officials say the figures mark the seventh consecutive semester of growth for school, which became a four-year university last year.
UVU's Director of Extended Studies, Bob Burns, says summer school has many advantages for students, including smaller class sizes. In addition, UVU lets all students pay in-state tuition rates during the summer and offers free parking.
Burns says the university is making an effort to offer summer courses that help students obtain their degrees.
