SALT LAKE CITY -- A downtown landmark got a new name Tuesday in honor of a former Utah governor.

Utah leaders past and present helped rededicate the Salt Palace Convention Center, as the Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center.

Rampton, the man known as "The Gov," was Utah's only three-term governor (1965-1977). He was a popular and widely respected political leader around the state and across the country.

Rampton was a driving force behind the planning and construction of the convention center.

Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr., Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon and Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker were among those who came out for the ceremony.

Rampton passed away on Sept. 16, 2007 at the age of 93.
