LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Mountain West Conference announced its 2006-07 preseason women's basketball poll and all-conference team today at its Basketball Media Day held at the Aladdin Hotel. The voting panel consisted of the league's nine head coaches and select women's basketball media.

New Mexico was tabbed as the preseason favorite by a slim margin after finishing tied for third place in last year's regular-season standings. New Mexico received eight of 19 first-place votes and 137 total points. BYU had seven first-place votes and finished second with 134 points, followed by TCU with four first-place votes and 126 points. Utah (102 points) placed fourth, followed by Wyoming (96 points), UNLV (71 points), San Diego State (41 points), Air Force (39 points) and Colorado State (36 points).

New Mexico junior forward Dionne Marsh earned Top Returning Player honors, while Justyna Podziemska of Wyoming was named Top Newcomer. Four of the nine MWC teams were represented on the all-conference team, including two seniors and three juniors. Marsh is a two-time all-MWC selection, including a first team pick last season. Marsh is joined on the preseason all-MWC team by teammate Katie Montgomery, Wyoming's Hanna Zavecz, BYU's Dani Kubik Wright and Adrianne Ross of TCU.
