The daughter of Brazilian footballing legend Pele died on Tuesday aged 42 of breast cancer.
Sandra Arantes do Nascimento had been admitted to hospital on Sunday in Santos, home to the club which Pele played for most of his glittering career.
Do Nascimento, who was a councillor on the Santos municipality, came to prominence in 1991 when she claimed that Pele was her father, which he strongly denied.
However she was proved right by a Brazilian court in 1996.
Pele has not had much luck with his offspring as his son Edinho served six months in jail last year for drugs trafficking and was arrested earlier this year for alleged money laundering.
