A Cache Valley resident says having a famous phone number is a lot of fun, even if he has to deal with dozens of prank calls daily.
When the prefix 867 was released for cell phones in Utah, Roger Nix of Logan immediately requested the number 801-867-5309, made famous by "Jenny", an 80s song written by Alex and Jim Keller and performed by the group Tommy Tutone.
Someone else already had the number but changed it a week later. It's been Nix's ever since, along with all the prank calls.
"I'm partially sick of it, but you know what? It's part of pop culture, so I really enjoy having it," Nix said.
He gets 30 to 40 prank calls a day during week days, up to 100 on the weekends and nonstop calls when the music video plays on ‘80s shows on VH1. "I just send you to voice mail," Nix said.
He's thought about selling the number, but he kind of likes it.
The song was a No. 1 hit in 1982, and it made famous the phone number 867-5309, which is repeated in the chorus.
