PROVO, Utah (AP) -- The Daily Herald of Provo has signed a 10-year agreement to have the newspaper printed in West Valley City, a move that will mean laying off 52 people.
The agreement with MediaOne of Utah also includes moving advertising insertion functions to the West Valley City plant.
The Herald says it will reduce its production work force by 52 employees, including full- and part-time workers.
The Herald says its current press has been prone to breakdowns in recent years. The new presses will print the Herald's 30,000 to 40,000 copies in 45 minutes, compared to two hours at the old press.
MediaOne of Utah oversees advertising, printing, circulation and business functions of The Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret News.
