Gene Kennedy ReportingA criminal brazen enough to shoot a gun inside the credit union he was robbing is still on the loose this morning.

The Mountain America Credit Union in Layton was robbed yesterday.

One witness, Orville Hastings, was in the credit union when it was robbed. He wanted to dial 911 on his cell phone, but he feared the robber would have shot him.

Orville Hastings: "He walked in and went 'boom.' He said, 'Everybody on the ground.' We all hit the ground."

Orville Hastings: "You look around, here's this guy all dressed in black, a ski mask on and a pistol in his hand."

Orville Hastings: "He said, 'Everybody stay down and no one will get hurt.' Everybody was fearful. There was a lot of fear going on in there."

Surveillance video shows the masked man pointing a gun at customers. No one was injured. He also had a backpack with him and demanded money from the teller. He kept insisting the teller hand over more cash. He got it, then took off.

Orville Hastings: "He said, 'Anybody come out this door and follow me, they're going to get shot. Don't follow me or I'll shoot you."

When the robber left, a customer outside saw him take off his mask, then get into a car parked by a dumpster.

It turns out the car was stolen from Syracuse. Police found it abandoned near an apartment complex in Clearfield. But they did not find the robber.

Investigators say they need the public's help catching this guy. Police describe the robber as a black male in his mid-20s, wearing a blue jumpsuit-- like what a mechanic wears-- and wearing white gloves. If you have any information, please call police.
