(KSL News) Two accused bank robbers have been caught, thanks to some observant citizens.
On Dec. 19, Mark Andre Vasquez allegedly walked into the Beehive Credit Union at 10404 South Redwood Road with a hoax bomb made from wires, lights and a 9-volt battery inside a bag. He demanded money, received cash and left.
As he was leaving, two credit union customers followed him and apprehended him, holding him until police arrived.
In a separate incident, on Dec. 22, a man entered the U.S. Bank at 1998 E. 4800 South wearing a beanie hat and a sweatshirt with the hood pulled up. He had his face painted with some sort of brown substance. He demanded cash then left the bank.
Later the same day, two citizens approached police to say they believed their vehicle had been used in a crime. They said that Jason Freeze and a woman borrowed their vehicle the morning of Dec. 22. When the truck was returned, the citizens found brown colored stage-type makeup in it. Tellers at the bank later identified Freeze in a photo lineup as the robber.
