MURRAY — A shooting involving Murray police early Tuesday is under investigation.
During the "early morning hours," officers responded to a "possible mental health crisis" involving a man armed with a gun in the area of 5500 South and 200 West, according to a brief statement released by Murray police.
"During the interaction with the male, an officer discharged their firearm. The subject was transported to the hospital and the officer involved critical incident protocol team was activated and will be conducting the investigation," police stated.
The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave.
Police have not released the condition of the man taken to the hospital.
Murray police say it is an "active and ongoing incident," and additional information was not immediately available.
A neighbor who has lived in the area for 55 years said she was awakened by the sound of gunfire at 4:41 a.m.
"I heard some tire squealing and racing around, kind of ... and then six shots fired," said Linda Schow.
Schow said she had never experienced anything like this in her neighborhood.
"I've never heard a shot other than at a gun range, but it was pretty scary," she said.
