OGDEN — A person was killed, and four more were hospitalized after a fire broke out in an Ogden home early Friday.

The Ogden Fire Department said it responded to a structure fire at 12:09 a.m. at 634 3rd Street.

When firefighters arrived, people were already evacuating from the home, the department said. However, crews learned that one person was unaccounted for.

"Firefighters executed an immediate primary search and rapid interior attack of the home. Interior search crews quickly located the missing resident and removed them from the structure. Despite those efforts, the resident succumbed to injuries sustained in the fire," the department said in a statement.

The four other people were taken to the hospital with injuries from smoke inhalation.

The fire department said the cause of the fire was still under investigation, and the American Red Cross was providing aid to the four family members who were displaced.

A spokesperson for Ogden fire said the home was likely a total loss. The fire department estimated that the fire caused $300,000 in damages.

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life, and our thoughts are with the family during this challenging time. We appreciate the coordinated response of all agencies involved in helping protect our community," the fire department said.

A GoFundMe* account has been created to assist the family as it contends with medical and funeral costs, said Betsy Daley, a neighbor who launched the fundraising effort. The account identifies those living in the home impacted as the Dickinson family.

"They are just absolutely incredible people, and our neighborhood is really quite close, love each other a lot, look out for each other," Daley said. "They are just completely in shock."

A neighbor noticed the fire and ran across the street to help the occupants get out, Daley said. She said the family dog is still missing.
