WEST JORDAN — A boy died Saturday when a vehicle he was in that was fleeing police collided with another vehicle. three others were injured and hospitalized.
At 1:30 a.m., a South Jordan police officer was initiating a traffic stop after observing a Toyota, occupied by three boys under age 18, recklessly driving and speeding in the West Jordan area when the vehicle fled, West Jordan police detective Chris Reyes said.
Soon after, the Toyota collided with an SUV operated by a 33-year-old man at the intersection of Mountain View Corridor and Old Bingham Highway.
A passenger in the Toyota died in the crash. The other passenger and driver of the Toyota were taken to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition, Reyes said.
The driver of the SUV was taken to a nearby hospital and went into surgery with broken bones and severe internal injuries. The driver is now in critical condition, Reyes said.
No identities of those involved in the crash were released.
