PROVO — A Provo man was arrested Tuesday and accused of pulling a gun on another driver following a minor collision.

Engels Gutierrez Frias, 30, was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of making a threat of violence. The booking charge comes with a potential road range penalty enhancement if convicted.

Just after 10 p.m., a woman reported to police that she was driving behind Frias, who was "driving very slow," and when she tried to pass him "he cut her off" resulting in a "slight collision," according to a police booking affidavit.

"After the collision, the victim stated Engels got out of his car, pulled out a gun, cocked his gun, and then pointed it at her. The victim also stated to (emergency dispatchers) that Engels was yelling at her while he had the gun," the affidavit alleges.

Frias then got back in his car with his child and waited until the police arrived.

"When I spoke with Engels, I asked him what had happened, he told me the other driver was tailgating him and that he was not driving slow like the victim stated. Engels then stated he was trying to make a left turn when the other driver tried to go around him and the two vehicles collided. Engels stated he pulled out his gun but he then put it away," the officer wrote in the affidavit.

Frias was then taken into custody and transported to jail.
