SALT LAKE CITY — As a kid, my mom would tell me to put on my shoes before going out in the snow. And, as a typical rebellious child, I went out into the snow barefoot — just briefly — just to stand up to her. Why not go for a quick run to the mailbox when I could be back before I could have gotten my shoes on?

A dog in upstate New York has its own way of dealing with the snow barefoot ... or bare-pawed.

In a video posted on YouTube, a Boston Terrier named Moxie has figured out that it's better to only have two cold paws than four.

Walking on twos may be tricky enough for a dog, but navigating the stairs without hesitation is impressive.

It's a little-known fact that a dog's paws benefit from a unique system of blood vessels that is similar to penguins' feet, according to a study based in Japan. The system makes it better for dogs to traverse colder habitats without expensive snow shoes.
