HUNTSVILLE, Weber County — Officials identified the Wyoming man who died after getting caught in an avalanche in the Monte Cristo area Monday evening.
Scott Wright, 37, of Evanston, had been snowmobiling with his friend when an avalanche occurred, the Rich County Sheriff's Office said. The avalanche happened in the Monte Cristo Snowmobile Area near the Rich and Cache county line.
The friend was unable to locate Wright and called for help. About 3 p.m., rescue crews arrived at the scene and started searching.
Rich, Cache and Weber county crews all pitched in during the search for the snowmobiler. Crew members said it took 30 minutes by snowmobile to reach the rescue site.
After a nearly four-hour search, crews located the Wright, who was buried in very deep snow, the Rich County Sheriff's Office said.
Wright was dug out, but he died from being caught in the slide.
