- Amanda Kaye Bachman faces new extortion charges involving an Arizona woman.
- Bachman is accused of demanding $2 million to avoid a federal lawsuit.
GOSHEN, Utah County — A woman already facing charges accusing her of orchestrating a child kidnapping attempt in Vernal in one case and trying to extort the mayor of the town of Goshen in another, is facing more accusations.
Prosecutors now say Amanda Kaye Bachman attempted to extort money from a woman in Arizona.
Bachman, 52, was charged Wednesday in 4th District Court with attempted theft by extortion, a third-degree felony.
According to new charges, in August 2023, a woman in Arizona received a Facebook message saying she would be named in a federal lawsuit "not just as a trafficker, but as a breeder and a seller. We have all the evidence we need to lay out how you have been orchestra(ing) things for years," according to charging documents.
The message further stated, "Here is my deal. You become a donor for (Bachman's) nonprofit — $2 million. $50,000 paid now, the rest by the end of September. In return, we won't file the federal suit," the charges state.
A week later, the woman received another message stating, "I have already told you who I am and how long I have been watching, truly waiting for when 'the time is ripe' to bring you down," court documents state.
Investigators served search warrants on the social media account and traced it back to Bachman, the charges state.
Bachman already faces charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, obstruction of justice and more after she was accused of orchestrating a plot to kidnap a 3-year-old girl in Vernal a year ago. A pretrial conference in that case was expected to take place on Wednesday.
She also faces charges of theft by extortion and bribery to influence official or political actions, second-degree felonies, on the accusation that she harassed the mayor of the town of Goshen, in part, by falsely claiming on social media he is involved in child human trafficking. A pretrial conference is scheduled in that case for Jan. 23.
