PEACH BOWL PANDEMONIUM — After a series of blowouts to start the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff, Cam Skattebo and the Arizona State Sun Devils finally gave the country a reason to tune in and believe in the new format Wednesday.
The Peach Bowl quarterfinal between the fifth-seeded Texas Longhorns and fourth-seeded Sun Devils had just about everything you could ask for in a college football game: a furious comeback, missed field goals to force overtime and an absolutely Herculean performance from senior running back Skattebo.
The Rio Linda, California, native did it all for the Sun Devils, finishing with 143 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, 88 receiving yards and a 42-yard touchdown pass to boot. Skattebo accounted for 56% of Arizona State's total offense against Texas, with most of his damage coming after throwing up on the sideline in the first half.
Arizona State eventually came up short in double overtime in a 39-31 loss, but Cam Mania had already taken hold.
Cam Skattebo has won the Peach Bowl MVP Award.
