When it comes to location, can you really have it all? Those seeking the feel of wide-open spaces and the luxury of modern conveniences will find them in Salem.

Amid this charming location, D.R. Horton, America's Builder, is introducing a master-planned community with homes for every age and stage of life. Buyers can find everything from starter to forever homes built in this stunning area.

Located in the south end of Utah County, Salem is a rural farming community that has some of the state's most beautiful landscapes. "Pond Town," as some early settlers called Salem, retains its small-town feel with community events like a holiday festival and polar plunge.

Although it may look like the location of a Norman Rockwell painting, Salem is close to a host of business, educational and employment opportunities. Salem is near Provo and the Silicon Slopes business district, Brigham Young University and Utah Valley University, and area schools in the Nebo School District. It's about five miles from Spanish Fork Canyon's world-class fishing, hiking and mountain biking.

"Salem is small enough, but big enough," said its mayor, Kurt Christensen. He said Salem has everything from a well-stocked fishing pond and developing trail systems to excellent youth recreation and senior programs. "We try to keep everybody involved in the community. People really think it's a hidden gem."

A place to stay for life

To complement the charming and convenient location, D.R. Horton aims to build a community where people can move and stay forever, said Utah Division President Boyd Martin.

"Housing needs change over time," Martin said. "But that shouldn't mean you have to leave a neighborhood, community or town you love. We're building Viridian for living. When you move to Viridian, we want you to have the option to stay here for life."

The first phase of homes will be for sale in December 2024. Viridian's offerings will include townhomes, cottages, larger single-family homes and twin homes. The diverse housing plans are meant to allow multiple generations to live in the same community and support one another, said Martin.

"How great would it be to have your own space while still being close to grandparents, grandchildren, siblings or cousins?" Martin said. "We want to take community-friendly housing to a whole new level."

A space for every stage

All Viridian homes, including townhomes, have standard four-foot-wide hallways and large kitchen islands. Each home has a standard 2-car garage, with an option for a three-car garage or RV pad on some homesites.

Buyers can choose from more than a dozen floor plans. Exterior styles will include Scandinavian, Farmhouse and Modern Farmhouse designs. Many homes will have basements.

The diverse lot and home sizes are meant to fit any buyer's needs, and each home offers a chance to connect with family and neighbors while enjoying the community's resort-like amenities.

Master-planned communities are an increasing trend in new construction, according to Realtor.com. The careful planning of these developments allows buyers access to a number of community perks.

Loaded with amenities

Viridian is planned to have everything including a sandy-beach recreational water reservoir, a pool and splash pad, a 25-acre park with soccer fields, pickleball courts and an amphitheater.

The community also has planned hiking and biking trails, a walking path and a bike pump track. Families, friends and neighbors can gather for games at the 9-hole disc golf course or at Viridian's sand volleyball pit. An area for food trucks and a pavilion with picnic tables and barbecue grills will give residents further opportunities to connect and relax.

Perhaps the most impressive and novel amenity in Viridian will be its recreational water reservoir with sandy beach front, Martin said. It's in line with the biggest trend of master-planned communities for 2024. According to Builder Online, water features are the number-one trend in amenities for master-planned communities.

At Viridian's water reservoir, residents can paddleboard, swim, kayak and soak up the sunshine with friends and neighbors. It's like having a day at the beach without ever having to leave your neighborhood, said Martin. He added that he hopes Viridian's amenities will offer something for every type of homeowner.

"Whether it's at our pool, our beach, our dog park or our pump track, we hope you'll find activities at Viridian that you love," said Martin. "It's such a great feeling to love where you live."
