After years of frustration with conventional pillows, Utah brothers Peter and Mark Rane, decided to pursue their dream of starting a business to solve consumer problems.

The Rane brothers are both seasoned product developers, working for companies like Yeti, Lenovo and Crank Brothers, which gave them the confidence needed to transform their frustration into a product the market needed.

Their Twilla pillow with a patented adjustment system addresses the fundamental issue of pillow comfort: proper support (a pillow that fits your sleep style and your body).

"It comes down to adjustability. We are all different; we have our own preferences, body types, and preferred sleeping positions. We wanted to use the most comfortable materials possible while still allowing for adjustments," Peter said.

Innovative design and functionality

The Rane brothers' pillow features an outer layer filled with a luxury down alternative, which offers comfort and excellent airflow. The pillow's center is accessed through a side zipper wherein you can adjust the pillow's size and firmness by adding or removing supportive foam inserts.

The patented adjustment system also gives you the ability to create targeted support areas in your pillow. For example, if you experience neck pain, you can position extra filling towards the front edge of the pillow which will provide extra neck support. If you like to change sleeping positions during the night, you can add extra filling to one side of the pillow to support side sleeping, and have less filling on the other side for back or stomach sleeping.

Having the proper support is essential for whatever your preferred sleeping position is. According to Sandee LaMotte of CNN, your sleeping position could cause neck and back pain, and finding a pillow that supports the natural curvature of your neck — which is different for everyone — is extremely important in alleviating the pain.

Positive reception and endorsements

Since launching their pillow business in 2023, Peter and Mark have received positive reviews from customers who appreciate the control the adjustable design gives them over their sleep experience. One customer praised the pillow, saying, "This is the best pillow I have ever had. It's hard to find a pillow that supports your head and neck so well. I wish I had these years ago. It's a total game changer."

It's not just customers who have grown attached to the new pillow either. Spine health expert Michael Halladay of Orem, UT, and creator of the Uprightly Spine Program, also endorses it, noting its importance in maintaining correct spine alignment during sleep. "The Twilla pillow checks all of the boxes," Halladay said.
