KSL.com Top 20+1: Shakeup in top 10 as football enters regular season's final week

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah high school football that saw an eventful week with shutouts and upsets at the highest level.

As we head into the final week of the regular season, things got shaken up in the top 10.

1. Corner Canyon (8-1, 4-0 6A Region 2)

The Chargers took down Bingham after pulling away late in the fourth quarter. Backup quarterback Bronson Evans threw three touchdowns in the effort, and Zion Finau ran in two touchdowns.

Corner Canyon will close out the regular season at Herriman on Friday.

2. Skyridge (7-2, 4-0 6A Region 3)

The Falcons are winners of their last four, with two of the wins coming over top-five teams in the rankings. The Falcons allowed just 7 points against the Vikings while putting up 49 on the offensive side of the ball.

Skyridge will take on American Fork in hopes to finish in a favorable seed for the state playoffs.

3. Lone Peak (7-2, 3-1 6A Region 3)

The Knights took down Lehi in a close 24-21 victory to put them in prime position for a top-four seed in the 6A state playoffs. Quarterback Kepa Niumeitolu was a force on the ground, rushing for 72 yards and tossing three touchdowns.

The Knights take on Westlake to close out the regular season.

4. Timpview (5-2, 4-0 5A Region 7)

Timpview shutout region foe Maple Mountain to eliminate the Golden Eagles from region title play. Senior quarterback Carson Rasmussen totaled four touchdowns to lead the Thunderbirds over Maple Mountain.

Timpview will fight for a region title at Orem on Wednesday.

5. Lehi (6-2, 2-2 6A Region 3)

Lehi fell to Lone Peak despite a great effort from their defense in the second half. While the Pioneers cannot compete for a region title, they will be a fun team to watch come the state playoffs.

6. Ridgeline (9-0, 5-0 4A Region 11)

The Riverhawks crushed Mountain Crust 42-3 and scored half their points in the fourth quarter. The Riverhawks have already clinched the region title and are one of the favorites to win the 4A state championship.

7. Orem (8-1, 4-0 5A Region 7)

Orem mounted a fierce comeback over Springville, with a touchdown in the final minutes by Beck Coy, and kept alive a chance at a region title. The Tigers will welcome Timpview in winner-take-all play for the Region 7 title.

8. Morgan (9-0, 4-0 3A North)

Morgan moves up a spot after a 62-0 shutout over Ogden, their fifth of the year. The dominant defense will be a force to be reckoned with come state playoffs.

9. Brighton (8-1, 5-1 5A Region 6)

Brighton defeated Layton Christian 41-0 thanks to four touchdown passes from quarterback Alex Degroot. The Bengals and West will play in the final week in what could end the year as a three-way-tie for first place in Region 6 with Olympus.

10. Bountiful (8-1, 5-1 5A Region 5)

The Redhawks stunned the Royals by scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter to vault them to the top of Region 5 play. A win over Woods Cross will seal a region title.

11. Roy (8-1, 5-1 5A Region 5)

While the Royals did fall to the Redhawks, Robert Young continued to light up the stat sheet with two more touchdowns to rank top three in the state.

12. Fremont (7-2, 4-0 Region 1)

The Silverwolves got a crucial win over Weber despite a good start by the Warriors. Fremont will face Farmington for the region title.

13. Park City (8-1, 5-1 4A Region 10)

The Miners are 8-1 on the year and a real threat in the 4A state playoffs after defeating Tooele 49-10. Though ineligible to win the region title, the Miners will take on former region foe Springville.

14. Provo (6-2, 5-0 4A Region 8)

The Bulldogs put up 49 first-half points to lead them to a decisive victory over Uintah. Provo can clinch the region title with a win over Mountain View.

15. Viewmont (6-3, 3-3 5A Region 5)

Viewmont had a 49-7 lead through three quarters over Bonneville and 42 points through one half thanks to five passing touchdowns by Titan Longson.

16. Maple Mountain (7-2, 3-2 5A Region 7)

The Golden Eagles were shutout by Timpview to move them out of the Region 7 race, though expected to finish toward the top of 5A in RPI. Maple Mountain will not play this week due to a scheduling miscommunication.

17. Spanish Fork (7-2, 4-1 4A Region 8)

The Dons scored 42 points to propel them to victory over Payson and give them their seventh win on the year to set up for a game against Timpanogos.

18. Green Canyon (6-2, 3-2 4A Region 11)

Green Canyon dominated Bear River 49-15 to set up a key game against rival Sky View this week. The winner will likely finish in the top three of the region.

19. Davis (6-3, 2-2 6A Region 1)

The Darts fell victim to Farmington despite a late fourth quarter effort to keep their region title hopes alive. Davis will take on Syracuse in their final regular season game.

20. Crimson Cliffs (7-2, 5-0 4A Region 9)

Our preseason No. 14 Crimson Cliffs finds themselves back in the rankings after a 56-21 win over Pine View to propel the Mustangs to first place in the region. While they have already clinched the title, the Mustangs will take on rival Dixie to close out the regular season.

Plus-1: Hillcrest (1-7, 1-4 4A Region 10)

Hillcrest enters after they got their first win of the season in a 24-7 victory over Cottonwood, backed by a 33-yard fumble returned for a touchdown by Brayden Lloyd to bring victory to Husky Nation. Hillcrest will look to go back-to-back and pick up a win over Jordan for their final week of the season.
