WASHINGTON — As the Red Kingdom celebrated senior night, the Crimson Cliffs Mustangs put on a show. The home team put together a 55-20 performance against the Hurricane Tigers for their sixth win in a row.
In his final home game, senior running back McCord Christiansen scored a career-high four touchdowns.
"We executed the game plan and played great, and it was just an awesome experience," Christiansen said.
Before Christiansen got on the board, the Mustangs had to get warmed up. It didn't take the team long to build momentum, though, as Malakai Alofipo took a jet sweep into the end zone to cap off the opening drive.
Then, after only four more minutes of playing time, Ryder Sherratt threw to Jaxson Holt for the first receiving touchdown of the night.
Just before the first 15 minutes were up, Christiansen made his mark with an 18-yard touchdown run. His first score put the Mustangs up 21-0.
Crimson Cliffs' defense forced Hurricane into a couple three-and-outs, without allowing a first down in the opening quarter. When the Tigers were finally able to reach enemy territory, the drive ended with a turnover on downs.
The Mustangs scored once more in the first half while keeping the Tigers scoreless. A Sherratt-Alofipo connection made the score 28-0 before the break.
Hurricane finally answered in the third quarter, and did so on the half-opening kick. Austyn McRoberts worked around the Mustang special teams and broke free for a 94-yard return and touchdown.
Unbothered, it took Crimson Cliffs less than two minutes to score again in the form of Christiansen's second rushing score of the night.
Trailing 35-6, the Tigers were still in it. When three Crimson Cliffs penalties helped the offense downfield, Hurricane took advantage of the opportunity, and quarterback Dylyn Gabriel found Brody Jacobs for the team's only offensive touchdown of the game.
The next two scores came from the Mustangs, both by way of Christiansen. With a 48-13 deficit, the Tigers were running out of time. Fortunately, their next score was an efficient one; but, unfortunately, it wasn't enough to make a difference.
McRoberts returned another kick for a touchdown, a 95-yarder, for Hurricane's last try.
Still not done, Sherratt and Holt connected once more to put 55 points on the scoreboard before the end, solidifying the game as the Mustangs' highest-scoring of the season.
"With a win like that, it's hard to be emotional (about senior night)," Christiansen said. "It's definitely sad this could be the last home game on the field. I love playing with my brothers and just having fun."
Next week, Crimson Cliffs will visit Pine View, who will be fresh after having a bye this week. Hurricane will host Desert Hills to wrap up region play.
