The 2024 games are underway. Just days ago the International Olympic Committee announced that Utah will host another Winter Olympics in 2034. So it's not too surprising that Utah residents have a special interest in and affinity for the Games.
It's been more than a century since Alma Richards became the first Utahn to win an Olympic Gold Medal in Stockholm. Olympics.com reports, "Alma Richards and the German, Hans Liesche, battled it out for the 1912 Olympic high jump title. Richards cleared 6-4 (1.93) on his final attempt and, with the German failing three times, the gold medal went to the 22-year-old Brigham Young student."
