LAYTON — The Layton Fire Department is investigating a "suspicious" fire involving a home, camper and several vehicles near Kay's Creek Trailhead early Sunday, according to Layton Fire Chief Jason Cook.
About 1:30 a.m., dispatch received three 911 calls reporting a brush fire near 2220 N. 1495 E. Hill Air Force Base and Layton fire responded. Upon arrival, fire crews found a home and multiple vehicles in the driveway engulfed in flames, along with surrounding vegetation prompting additional units to be sent.
Fire crews were able to contain the fire in approximately 30 minutes. The homeowners were out of town at the time of the fire and have since been notified to begin the recovery process.
A residential home, camper, trailer, tow truck and additional vehicles were involved bringing the estimated damage to approximately $850,000, said Cook.
Juveniles were spotted nearby and the cause is currently under investigation.
