Fire reaches 1,100 acres, 0% containment in Fishlake National Forest

MARYSVALE, Piute County —The Silver King Fire in southern Utah has expanded to approximately 1,100 acres in less than 24 hours according to Utah Fire Info, raging in "very steep and rugged terrain with limited accessibility."

The fire is burning about 8 miles west of Marysvale and was sparked by lightning on Friday, according to Marysvale Fire Chief Jon Christensen. It was called in about 1 p.m. by area residents who saw smoke.

The fire is burning heavy timber and threatening multiple historic mining structures in the Old Kimberly Mining District, though Utah Fire Info reports crews have been able to provide some structure protection.

Saturday afternoon, Utah Fire Info indicated that the fire had expanded to 1,100 acres and was 0% contained.

Marysvale Fire Chief Jon Christensen posted on Facebook that a tanker planes, which can drop hundreds of gallons of water or fire retardant, attacked the blaze Friday night. By Saturday morning, Utah Fire Info said they had "1 hot shot crew, 4 engines and aircraft on scene."
