INDIANAPOLIS — Luke Whitlock watched the Tokyo Olympics and dreamed about the day he could compete on the American team. That moment is just six weeks away. The 18-year-old soon-to-be college freshman qualified for his first Olympic team Tuesday by finishing second to two-time Olympic gold medalist Bobby Finke in the men's 800-meter freestyle. Whitlock's time of 7 minutes, 45.19 seconds capped a stellar week in which he also broke Michael Phelps' record for 17- and 18-year-olds in the 400 freestyle — and he did it all just a short drive away from his home in Noblesville, an Indianapolis suburb.
