WHITEFISH, Montana — A grizzly bear had been getting into chicken coops and causing other trouble for property owners in the area, so biologists used a culvert trap to capture him.

After tranquilizing the 22-year-old grizzly, scientists conducted blood tests and a DNA analysis. The biologists then relocated the bear to a more remote area where he wouldn't come into contact with humans as much. When the trap's door was opened, the bear definitely left an impression on anyone who might watch the footage. See it for yourself.

Yikes! This video actually reminds of a passage from Sid Marty's nonfiction book, "The Black Grizzly of Whiskey Creek." A person had been observing a grizzly in a trap prior to its release, and the bear locked eyes on him. The individual then left the scene before the trap was opened. When the grizzly emerged, it was understandably enraged by its confinement in the trap. But, instead of fleeing into the trees, it sprinted to the exact place where the person had been standing and tore at the ground.

"I expected him to bolt into the creek and set my camera up accordingly," explains the photographer who originally posted the footage. "But he had his own idea which involved a bit of revenge … and explodes from the trap as soon as the door is high enough. Then he almost takes my camera with him. Amazingly, the camera still works, though, it's now scored with grizzly teeth marks."

So what have we learned today? Never be near a trap when a bear is about to be released.
