There are many factors for an auto dealership's success. Having the right location, staff and leadership all contribute to making a business thrive. That said, one element that tends to separate those who flourish from those who fail is the relationship between the dealership and the manufacturer.
Now over 100 years old, Mazda is known for making sure that those who sell their vehicles share their commitment to quality and their vision for growth. Many dealerships work with the manufacturer, and one company that stands out for taking their mission to heart is a century-old business based in Utah: the Young Automotive Group.
"I think what makes our partnership so strong is our commitment to core values," said Ryan Albert, Young Mazda of Ogden's general manager. "We're both dedicated to taking care of our customers and generating loyalty. Our team delivers an experience that matches the quality of the cars we sell."
The Young Automotive Group acquired its first Mazda dealership in 2015. It was also during this time that the manufacturer launched its Driving Matters campaign — a defining moment for the company.
Now Young Mazda, the dealership worked on making their facility compliant with the manufacturer's vision. They immediately moved from their location in Riverdale, Utah to a temporary building in Kaysville, where they'd operate until a new dealership was developed. It was at this location that Young Mazda began establishing staple elements of their business.
In 2017, the dealership partnered with the Ogden Children's Treehouse Museum, the Davis Education Foundation and the Young Automotive Group's non-profit, the Young Caring for Our Young Foundation, to host their first Cast A Spell event. Featuring magic shows as well as wand and spellbook-making sessions, Young Mazda raised food donations for the Bountiful Food Pantry.
The dealership continues to hold Cast A Spell events today, with their latest one raising 728 pounds of food for Catholic Community Services.
"We're always grateful for opportunities to deliver on our commitment to the community," Albert said. "Writing a check to a cause is great, but what we love to do is engage our employees in the heart of our efforts. It provides everyone with a fulfilling experience that lets them know that they're making a difference."
In 2018, Young Mazda moved into their renovated facility on Riverdale Road. Since the grand opening, they've developed into not only one of the Young Automotive Group's five highest selling locations, but one of the top Mazda dealerships in the state. They've also engaged in new charitable efforts, including annual free use of a vehicle giveaway for Ogden's teachers of the year.
Young Mazda's success in Utah encouraged executives at the Young Automotive Group to acquire more of the manufacturer's dealerships. In 2023, they celebrated the grand opening of Mazda locations in both Idaho Falls and Missoula, Montana.
"It's incredible to see our company increase their efforts with the Mazda brand," Albert said. "Mazda is a manufacturer that plays an incredible role in the direction of the automotive industry. I have no doubt that by teaming up with them, we're teaming up with an organization that will make a considerable impact on the future."
