BRIGHAM CITY — A former Logan police officer is facing charges, including forcible sexual abuse, after prosecutors say he spotted two women while driving his squad car and insisted they get inside.
Carlos Jonathan Cubias, 27, was charged on Wednesday with forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony; four counts of unlawful access or use of criminal investigations and technical services division records, a class B misdemeanor; and texting or emailing while driving, a class C misdemeanor.
About 2 a.m. on April 30, Cubias "spotted two young women" who were walking alone and made a U-turn in his squad vehicle and called them over, the charges state.
The officer "insisted the young women get in his vehicle and began driving them to their destination," according to the charges.
While Cubias was driving, he began to ask the women "sexually-charged questions," prosecutors wrote.
"Once they reached the destination, (Cubias) demanded one of the young women give him her number. While (she) was putting her number in his phone, (Cubias) put his hand under the waistband of her pants," the charges state.
The women "tried to move away," and prosecutors say the officer then "grabbed" her inappropriately as she walked away.
Police say Cubias "used the information he had gained about (the woman) to conduct four searches for her personal information" in the division records, and he texted her while he was driving his police car.
Logan police confirmed that Cubias was an officer for the department from 2019 to May 2023. Cubias was investigated by Brigham City police and resigned shortly after May 2023 while their investigation continued.
"We were made aware of the allegations against him; he was immediately placed on (administrative) leave while the investigation continued," Logan police said in a statement.
