SPANISH FORK — The Utah Department of Transportation has announced lane expansions and road improvements for U.S. 6 in Spanish Fork to better the traffic flow, safety and connectivity of the area.

The improvement project will implement dual left turns at the Expressway Lane and Canyon Creek Parkway intersections. U.S. 6 will be widened to add a third eastbound lane from Expressway Lane to about Center Street.

Signal and intersection improvements will be put in place at Expressway Lane along with relocation of the trail on the south side of the road to "enhance safety, accessibility, and promote the use of various transportation modes."

UDOT said it will update drainage controls and add new pavement from I-15 to U.S. 89 at the mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon.

"This is a vital transportation corridor linking the Wasatch Front to I-70 and point beyond. Keeping Utah Moving is a department priority," UDOT said. "U.S. 6 serves as a crucial link between Interstate 15, Price, Interstate 70 and other key destinations."

Construction is anticipated to start on March 6, with a majority of the work being completed overnight to minimize congestion, UDOT said. All traffic lanes will be shifted to the north side of U.S. 6 while the road undergoes construction, but business access will remain open.

UDOT said the estimated completion date will be in winter 2024. Individuals can sign up for construction progress updates and call UDOT's hotline for questions or concerns.
