KAYSVILLE — A Kaysville police officer was injured and had to be extracted from his vehicle after he stopped a wrong-way driver on I-15 by crashing head-on early Friday.
The officer located the vehicle traveling north in the southbound HOV lane of I-15 near 200 North about 2 a.m. on Friday.
"The officer crossed the dirt gore area between the ramp and I-15, crossed all lanes of I-15 and collided with the northbound Tesla in the front fender area, stopping the vehicle," said a statement from the Utah Department of Public Safety.
Roden added that the driver of the wrong-way vehicle was not injured and was taken into custody for investigation of DUI, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Roden. The officer was hospitalized but released Friday afternoon.
The southbound lanes of I-15 were closed for several hours before opening around 4:30 a.m.
