THE LIVING ROOM — Since I'm not personally a dog owner, I get most of my insights from a 1992 movie called "Beethoven." The most famous scene occurs after the lovable Saint Bernard has made a muddy mess of Charles Grodin's bedroom. When Grodin's character angrily confronts Beethoven, the dog stands up and executes the most epic "mud shake" of all time.
I thought that scene was hilarious when I was a kid. But I had no idea whether or not it was realistic. Could dogs really spread mud that thoroughly? And would a vigorous shake really send mud and saliva flying in every direction?
Even now, I don't have all those answers. But I think this video from Australia helps shed light on just what a muddy and dedicated dog can really accomplish with your furniture.
The owners, to their credit, didn't seem too worried about the incident.
"Willow strikes again!" proclaims the caption. "Who knew our couch doubled as a mud pit?"
It's nice to know Willow has such good-natured owners. And who knows? Maybe the owners started out all gruff and annoyed, like Charles Grodin's character in "Beethoven," and then slowly had their hearts melted by the amazing dogs that had entered into their lives.
