SALT LAKE CITY — Let the Big 12 era begin ... soon.

With the official move to the Big 12 still months away for the University of Utah, the conference released its first football schedule for the new-look conference. And the biggest surprise is that the BYU-Utah rivalry game will not be played on the traditional weekend for rivalry matchups.

After a two-year break, the Cougars will travel north to Rice-Eccles Stadium to play the Utes on Nov. 9.

Utah will play 10 de facto conference games after a previously-schedule Baylor home-and-home series was agreed upon to remain a nonconference game. That game, which was already scheduled for Sept. 7, will come two weeks before Utah opens up its conference slate on the road against Oklahoma State on Sept. 21.

The Utes get two bye weeks this season — Oct. 5 and Nov. 2 — breaking up its conference slate.

In total, Utah will have an evenly-matched home-and-road schedule, with six home and six road games, though a Week 3 matchup at Utah State allows for the Utes to not leave the state in nonconference play.

In November, the conference released a four-year look at each team's schedule, though the exact dates were not released.
