SALT LAKE CITY — A man is dead after a shooting early Sunday near 300 East and 800 South.

About 2:37 a.m., dispatchers received several 911 calls about a possible shooting in the area. When police responded, a man was found dead on the sidewalk, according to a release from the Salt Lake City Police Department. Detectives with the homicide squad, as well as crime lab technicians, were called to the scene. Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe an argument occurred prior to the shooting, the release states.

Witnesses reported the gunmen left in a car, in an unknown direction, following the shooting. A description of the alleged vehicle was not available.
