SALT LAKE CITY — Two twin brothers who were allegedly annoyed at their neighbor for honking his car horn outside their home now face criminal charges accusing them of shooting at the man.

Carlos Navarro and Raul Navarro, both 27, were each charged Wednesday in 3rd District Court with firing a gun causing injury, a second-degree felony; four counts of shooting in the direction of a person, a third-degree felony; and property damage, a class B misdemeanor.

About 7:20 p.m. on Dec. 4, Salt Lake police received multiple 911 calls from residents reporting shots fired in the area of 1500 West and 800 South. An officer met up with the victim who said he was outside the Navarro residence "in his vehicle and was honking his horn and bothering" the Navarro brothers, when the brothers started following him in their car for several blocks and then shot at him, according to charging documents.

The officer saw three bullet holes in the rear of the man's car, and noted that the man suffered a shoulder injury possibly from ricocheting shrapnel. A total of five shell casings were collected by police.

The brothers were later arrested by the department's SWAT team. Prosecutors have requested that they remain in the Salt Lake County Jail without the possibility of posting bail pending trial.
