While you may not find any Oompa Loompas doing the heavy lifting, visiting a chocolate factory might be just as magical — though far less perilous — as you've read in books. It also happens to be easier and more convenient than you ever imagined — no golden ticket required.

Mrs. Cavanaugh's Chocolates & Ice Cream, a renowned confectionery known for its premium quality sweets, is open for factory tours and tastings. Now, chocolate enthusiasts can take part in a delightful and delicious experience.

It all started with a pecan roll

Mrs. Cavanaugh's, a family company rooted in rich tradition, originated from a simple church fundraiser in South Dakota, where Marie Cavanaugh crafted various candy confections using her exceptional pecan roll recipe.

The fundraiser's success led to the establishment of Mrs. Cavanaugh's Chocolates, with George and Marie Cavanaugh securing a loan to open their first candy store using a one-pound box of chocolates as collateral.

If you're wondering how that box of chocolate sated lenders, well, you'll probably need to taste the collateral.

Owned and operated by the Cavanaugh family since 1964, the business has thrived across generations, maintaining the founders' commitment to excellence.

The secret to their delectable treats lies in using only the finest ingredients, including fresh cream and butter, coupled with high-quality chocolate, ensuring an unmatched taste and customer satisfaction.

Factory tours and tastings

The factory, located in North Salt Lake is a hub of sweet creations where visitors can explore the making of their specialties, including caramels, cream fondants, brittles, popcorn, ice cream, truffles and more.

Visitors taking the tour will get a unique peek into the intricate world of confectionary creation. And if experiencing the intricacies of candy-making makes you hungry (spoiler alert: it will), you'll also get the chance to indulge in an exquisite chocolate and confectionary tasting.
