GREEN RIVER — A man claimed he was traveling from Las Vegas to Denver on Sunday so he could show his girlfriend snow. But police in Utah say he had plenty of white powder already under his seat.
Bobby Delano Williams, 45, and Kristen Ann Johnson, 38, were each arrested for investigation of drug possession with intent to distribute, and concealing drugs in their vehicle.
Williams was pulled over on I-70 about 10:20 p.m. Sunday for speeding, according to a police booking affidavit.
"I asked the male about his travels, and he explained to me that they were coming from Las Vegas traveling to Denver to show his girlfriend the snow. He told me that she doesn't get out and he wanted to take her on a trip," a Utah Highway Patrol trooper wrote in the affidavit.
As the trooper continued to question Williams, the driver admitted to having marijuana inside his car and a police K-9 was called to the scene, according to UHP.
"At this point I told the driver we would be searching the vehicle due to the marijuana he admitted to," the trooper wrote. "While searching the vehicle I was able to locate a package of a raw green leaf-like substance consistent with marijuana not in a medical package nor was it labeled. I then noticed the driver side of the vehicle had some plastic messed with by the driver door. We were able to pull up the carpet and noticed a 90-degree angle under the seat and the carpet was glued down. ... We could also see the tape and (an) altered compartment that was built in under the two front seats."
Under the two seats, troopers found an estimated 20 kilos of cocaine, according to the affidavit.
In addition, after taking the couple to the UHP field office in Green River, "I was able to confirm the driver was under the influence of alcohol," the trooper wrote in the affidavit.
Both Williams and Johnson were then booked into the Emery County Jail.
