SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake police have identified a man who was killed in an early morning shooting.

About 1:45 a.m. Friday, police responded to 600 East and 200 South, where a 911 caller reported a man in his 20s was on the ground. Emergency responders quickly discovered the man had been shot.

Rory Swimm, 23, died at the scene, despite life-saving efforts, according to a statement from Salt Lake police.

Investigators believe Swimm got into an argument with a person or several people and was shot while standing on the southwest corner of 600 East and 200 South. Police say the gunman got into a car and was driven away.

Detectives are asking anyone who lives or works in the area between 100 South to 400 South and from 500 East to 700 East to check security and/or doorbell cameras for any possible evidence that can be seen between 1:15 a.m. and 2 a.m.

"Detectives are interested in reviewing any footage that may show a group of people walking together or any vehicles coming or leaving the area at a high rate of speed," police said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police at 801-799-3000. Police said this is the 14th homicide in Salt Lake City this year.
