RIVERTON — A man was electrocuted while doing some maintenance work at a Chick-fil-A Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred at the Riverton Chick-fil-A located at 4627 W. Partridge Hill Lane. A statement from Josh Lee, Riverton spokesman, said a 38-year-old electrician died. He was not a Chick-fil-A employee.
The man was working on a dishwasher just after noon when he was shocked in the middle of the busy kitchen while employees were taking orders and cooking food. Unified firefighters worked for 30 minutes to save the man's life but were unsuccessful and the man died at the restaurant.
After the tragedy, a group of Chick-fil-A employees were seen huddled together, crying and praying outside of the restaurant.
"It was a very traumatic experience and the individual succumbed to his injuries on scene, so I imagine they saw much of that," Lee said about the employees.
The man's identity has not been released, but officials with Johnson Pike confirmed he is one of their employees. The situation is still being investigated. The restaurant is closed until the investigation is completed.
