ARCADIA, Duchesne County — A Duchesne County man has been arrested and accused of killing his wife.
Brent Nello Gilbert, 65, was booked into the Duchesne County Jail on Thursday and charged Friday in 8th District Court with murder and illegal discharge of a firearm, first-degree felonies, in connection with the death of Stacey Gilbert.
Sheriff's deputies received a 911 call early Thursday from a man in Arcadia.
"The caller stated he had killed his wife. Deputies arrived on scene and took the caller into custody. A deceased adult female was located inside the residence," according to a prepared statement from the sheriff's office.
The first deputies who arrived at the scene "found Brent with suspected knife wounds to his wrists that he stated were self-inflicted. Brent was transported by ambulance to the Uintah Basin Medical Center to be treated for his injuries," a police booking affidavit states.
"Inside the residence there was a deceased female located inside the master bedroom of the home. The victim had what appeared to be multiple injuries to her back and front torso. The injuries appeared to be from an unknown type of firearm," according to the affidavit.
A 12-gauge shotgun found outside the bedroom door that appeared to have blood on it was seized as evidence, police say. Three spent casings were also located in the bedroom near the deceased woman's body.
A motive for the killing has not been released.
