SALT LAKE CITY — Check back for the latest scores from all the Week 10 high school football games across the state.
KSL.com Sports' Game of the Week: Timpview at Skyridge
Why did we choose this game?
For the first week of the season, high school football is coming out with a bang. We're following the third-ranked Timpview Thunderbirds traveling to reigning 6A champions and first-ranked Skyridge Falcons for our Friday night Game of the Week.
Timpview enters the game as one of the best teams from 5A off a 10-3 season and a runner-up finish last year against Lehi in the 5A championship game. Though the Thunderbirds have just three returning starters on offense, quarterback Helaman Casuga has proven receiver Tei Nacua and other weapons at his disposal to maintain the winning ways.
The Thunderbirds' six returning defensive starters should help, as well. And they'll need every bit of that defense against the Falcons.
Skyridge isn't content with winning just one championship, and the team is easily a front-runner for a repeat opportunity this season. Timpview will have its hands full against a Skyridge team that returns eight offensive starters and three defensive starters in Justin Hemm's first season at head coach. But the Falcons may be vulnerable up front on defense, and Timpview could take advantage.
Davis transfer quarterback Jackson Stevens will be tough to beat, though. The senior quarterback threw for over 3,200 yards and had 24 touchdowns last season for the Darts. Skyridge likely won't take a step back on offense, but we're looking forward to see how it all shakes out.
