SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Jazz have signed former Miami Heat center Omer Yurtseven, the team announced Monday.
It's a two-year deal, with the first being partially guaranteed, according to Hoops Hype. The second is non-guaranteed.
Yurtseven, 25, will enter his third NBA season this fall. The Turkish big man averaged 5.3 points and 5.3 rebounds in 59 games as a rookie, but an injury cost him much of his second year.
He injured his foot during the preseason last fall and didn't play in a game until early March. He played in nine regular season games and eight playoff games during Miami's run to the Finals, but wasn't ever part of the rotation.
The Heat opted not to pick up his qualifying offer at the start of free agency.
"We're grateful we got a chance to be there," Yurtseven's agent told south Florida-based reporter Barry Jackson at the time. "Disappointed with injury; it was kind of a wasted year for him. We'll try to find a place that values him and helps him reach his potential."
That place appears to be in Utah.
The Jazz had been looking for some depth down low after trading Damian Jones and waiving Vernon Carey Jr. this offseason. Utah attempted to pry big man Paul Reed from the 76ers with a unique offer sheet, but Philadelphia matched the offer.
